Chordee: How to Care for Your Child

Chordee (KOR-dee) is a curve in the penis. Children with chordee are born with it, but in some kids it's not obvious until puberty.

Usually no treatment is needed, but a severe curve can be treated with surgery.

Care Instructions

  • No special home care is needed.
  • If your child has trouble aiming their pee, they can try sitting on the toilet seat to pee.
  • Follow your health care provider's instructions for:
    • Whether your child should see a urologist (doctor for problems with the urinary tract and the male reproductive system)
    • When to follow up

Call Your Health Care Provider if...

Your child:

  • Has trouble peeing
  • Feels uncomfortable about the way their penis looks

More to Know

What are the symptoms of chordee? The main symptom is a curved penis. The curve is usually downward, sometimes also to the side. The curve may be more obvious when someone has an erection.

What problems can happen? A severe curve may make it hard to aim the pee, make someone feel uncomfortable about the way it looks, or cause problems with sex later in life.
