Please read ALL instructions before you start. Cleaning your child’s skin the night before surgery can help ensure the procedure starts on time. It can also help prevent infections. You will need: • The cleansing kit (shown at the right). • A clean towel. • Freshly washed clothes or pajamas. • Freshly washed sheets and pillowcases. 1. Have your child shower or bathe using the bar of soap in the kit, then rinse. Use your normal, clean washcloth – save the mitt for step 4. 2. Shampoo hair and rinse. DO NOT use hair conditioner. 3. Turn the water off or direct it away from your child. Don’t dry off.

4. Put the mitt on your hand, and pour some CHG onto it. 5. Starting below the chin, lather the CHG on the skin. Work your way down your child’s body. Use as much CHG as you need. 6. Clean the creases where the legs meet the body. On your child’s butt and private area, only put CHG on the outside. DO NOT put CHG on any of the openings in these areas. 7. Lather CHG all the way down to the feet. Clean between the toes. 8. Once the CHG is on the whole body, start the 3-minute hourglass. After 3 minutes, rinse off all of the CHG. 9. Use the clean towel to pat dry (don’t rub), then dress your child in clean pajamas. 10. When it’s time for bed, have your child sleep in a bed with the clean sheets.
